Portugal to reduce emissions by 4.8% in 2021

Last Friday, the Minister for the Environment, Duarte Cordeiro, announced that in 2021 Portugal had reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 4.8% compared to the previous year.

“In the year in which our Gross Domestic Product grew by 4.9%, we reduced greenhouse gases by practically the same amount,” he said, arguing that the reduction shows that “to grow economically you don’t have to pollute”, and that “you just have to do it with a sense of belonging to the community, innovation and environmental responsibility”.
